Factions in the Ten Queendoms are far too numerous to fully and definitively enumerate. Our researchers are monitoring ongoing commercial, martial, arcane, criminal, political, and mutual interest factions in locales across the ten queendoms. Please reference their various reports in the regional entries of this gazetteer for local conditions.
The following factions are notable for having a significant presence in or impact on a majority of Queendoms.
Major Factions of the Ten Queendoms
- The Retired Seafarer's Guild (RSFS)
- The RSFS maintains a presence, at least part-time, in most port cities around the Queendoms, excepting the Karya Coast of Mataga. They are a mutual-interest guild looking after the interests of commercial shipping, and are known to be especially dirty fighters.
- The Venerati Guild
- Mercenary Fighters found throughout the Queendoms. They are rarely much more than swords for hire, but do also offer some useful training services where they have well-established guild halls.
- The Bank of Cadmus & Flitch
- Based in Khalri, the Bank of Cadmus and Flitch has been slowly making inroads in other queendoms, despite official and commercial resistance. They offer a number of banking services including low-interest loans, secure deposit facilities, and paper currency. Not all services are available at all locations. The bank occasionally inspires copy-cats, both in Khalri and beyond, but these do not seem to last long. There is strong resistance to Cadmus and Flitch on the part of all the Queens, but some Queendoms are more active in their opposition than others. The Queen of Khalri does not do business with Cadmus and Flitch, but seems to tolerate the faction. Merchants who have bought into the model tend to appreciate the convenience of paper currency for high-denomination transactions.
- The Miria Sisterhood
- In all Queendoms except Duumaba. The Sisterhood is considered a somewhat loose federation of guilds, since each is in direct service to each of the nine Queens they serve. The Sisterhood is not always well regarded by other servants of the Queen, but they have their uses when loyalty is beyond question. In situations where there are rival candidates or claimants for the throne, the Sisterhood is notable for serving ALL claimants, but not against each other.
- The Sat-Sarvati Guild
- The Sat-Sarvati guild has a reputation for skullduggery and is perhaps least welcome in its home Queendom of Buvaresh. They are borderline criminal, often getting involved in inter-queendom disputes and local matters where they stand to make extraordinary profit. They specialize in small teams of highly effective agents that undertake challenging and sensitive missions. The rumor is that they primarily take on missions in which they stand to gain magical items and artifacts. What they do with such loot is a matter of ongoing debate.
